Phish “No Thanks” List

In the vein of the Phish Wishlist, here’s a list of my least favorite Phish songs.

Lawn Boy
Foam
Army of One
Nothing
Possum
Character Zero

There aren’t many Phish songs I don’t like… in fact, I don’t even dislike all of these, but these are the songs that I like least/want to hear least. Character Zero, for example, is a song I used to like, but now I’m just tired of it and hearing the opening riff at a show is always a bit of a downer until the song part is over and the jam part begins. Got any least favorite songs?

And don’t say Time Turns Elastic!

  1. You know. Possum is normally a really fun song, but they played it so much this summer that I got really bored with it.

However, as with all songs, they all have their place. Army of One was perfect for the Fest8 Acoustic set. Lawn Boy can have its place, but usually they just stop everything for Page to get out from behind the keyboards to croon and they have to wait for him to get back before they can start up another song. At least with the Fishman tunes, Page and Mike keep playing and there are usually some crazy antics surrounding them.

I used to have Bug on my list, but they totally blew it up at Great Woods over the summer. I think Let Me Lie could fall on that list though. It's a great song, but I felt in Albany it was too slow for what was such a rockin' set.

Until they master TTE live, that's going on my list. 🙂 I don't really know what else would be on the list. It's a tough one. It really depends on the moment. Possum is on it because I've seen it too many times.

  2. No, TTE can't go on your list. We already know you like it. It can't be your “least favorite” if you like it. Although, I do get your argument as to why you'd rather not see it live. But which song itself is your “I don't like it” song?

  3. In that case, I don't think there are any songs I can actually say “I don't like it” to. There are some I don't care to see live. Some that kill a set, but to say a blanket “I don't like it” I'm not sure if any exist. You see… I like all the songs I mentioned, just not necessarily live. I enjoy Possum. It's fun. It was just overplayed this summer. I like Let Me Lie, just not always live. I like Lawn Boy, even though it destroys the flow of a set. I'm not sure I've heard a Phish song I can really say “I don't like it” about, either studio or live. They all have their place in my opinion.

    1. I love Gogli now. I think seeing it at the Gorge did it for me. That one guitar lick is the best!

  7. wow.. crazy.. i love golgi… but anyway… theres quite a few songs especially off of ghost, round room, and undermind, joy and joy part 2 i dont like … i really dislike shafty and fikus off of ghost luckily ive never seen those live (have they ever even played fikus live like more than once?) Although, i’ve revisted undermind and realized that I actually do like a lot of the songs i thought i didnt. same with ghost too- i used to call it my least favorite 1.0 album but then i realized besides those 2 songs, i like everything else.. although im not a huge fan of birds of a feather either

anyway, as far as songs I used to like but am not much of a fan of anymore because of overplaying.. Chalkdust has got to be one of them.. i’ve actually only been to 6 shows (i guess 9 if you count Festival 8 as 3 separate shows) since Coventry.. out of those i’ve seen Chalkdust SIX times.. ugh… great the first like 3 times but everytime? especially when I’ve been chasing the elusive forbinbird, tela and harpua my whole life… but i am glad to say I got the Alumni>Letter to Jimmy Page bustout opener last summer in camden
